THE STUDENTS OF ISFIT PARTICIPATE IN SCIENTIFIC DEBATING

Wini – Nine students of ISFIT participated in a scientific debating event. The debating activity was organized by students of UNWIRA and ISFIT and took place on November 29, 2024, at the parish of Wini, Atambua.

The debate used the Asian Parliamentary Debate System and included eight different motions: Criminal offense (prison) of 15 years for couples who have an abortion; Prospective priests (seminarians) are prohibited from using mobile phones during the formation stage; Demonstrations as an effective way for students to convey their aspirations; Modern culture as a threat to traditional culture; The advancement of science and technology weakens the critical and independent thinking skills of generation Z; Underage marriage impacts divorce; Minors do not have the right to do forced labor; and The maximum time limit for a sermon/homily is 8 to 10 minutes.

The jury team included Father Peter Than, SVD, and Prof. Ligório Borromeu. The nine ISFIT students who participated were Me. Olandina Casimiro, Élio C. Lafo, Augusto Amaral Freitas, Moisés Soares, Francisco Xavier, Izaquiel dos Reis, Remigio Paulo Martins, Eugunizio Ximenes and José Xavier Amaral.

The scientific debating activity provided a valuable platform for the students to develop their critical thinking and public speaking skills. It fostered a spirit of intellectual curiosity and teamwork among participants, encouraging them to engage deeply with complex issues. Such events not only enhance academic abilities but also build confidence and prepare students for future leadership roles within their communities. (Research Team)
